My elderly parents are making the move to this area to be closer to us (sigh of relief on our part- no more driving for them and sleepless nights for me). I am having the eye opening experience of finding doctors in the area that still accept Medicare and specifically cardiologists. It seems that many of the individual practices are getting bought up by the hospital networks and for a lot, Medicare is not one of the insurances that they "still" accept. If anyone has had personal experience with a cardiologist in the Cary/Raleigh area and know they do accept Medicare, I would love any recommendations. My father has stents and a pacemaker and is in his late 80s (knock on wood) so I really am looking for someone who has experience with this type of clientele and hopefully the bedside manner needed (probably wishful thinking). Thank you for your time and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
My wife is 66 with a pacemaker/defibrillator 'installed' by Carolina Cardiologists. We have been very happy with the care they provide. There are several offices in the Raleigh area. Good luck with the parents; moving closer is a great idea.
Try checking with the Duke system. We've had ZERO problems locating specialists that accept Medicare. (An internist to be primary that accepts Medicare? Well, that's another story.)

Try Duke Primary Care for that. Quite a few locations.
I've been through your dilemaw/ my parents & its certainly tough, however fixable.
My advice is during open-enrollment, your parents choose a Medicare Advantage plan. There are many, & consultants will meet w/them to discuss options. My parents, have BC/BS (Blue medicare/HMO) & have a slew of Dr.'s to choose from. In fact, when they went on the plan, their existing Dr.s, all of them, were on the plan. I think this is the route to go since traditional Medicare pays lousy in comparison.
