We are looking to buy a townhouse (don't think we can afford a detached home) in the west Cary area (an area convenient to my work in southwest Durham) for less than $200,000. We like the good schools there and it is convenient to work. Any recommendations for specific developments? Stonewater? The Amberly area? Something along 55 and not too far south, but closer to Durham? Any advice will be appreciated.
I was just with clients at Kitts Creek and noticed they have new townhomes. Sign said $190s but you'd need to know if that was a base price and then you had to add your upgrades. My buyers are purchasing single family in the n'hood.
Also, notice new townhomes across from Twin Lakes.
Plenty of exsiting townhomes in the area, as well.

In regard to Amberly, just note that it is not even half built. Many more townhouses and maybe condos to come.
I'm directionally challenged but isn't West Cary really Morrisville???
Vicki
I think so....
I'd also recommend N. Cary (27513, near Beechtree/Cary Academy Area) is also very convenient to Durham, due to it's proximity to I-40. I live in a Beechtree Community of Cary Pkwy and my commute to work in RTP is only 14 minutes. Maybe 20 minutes if I leave at 5:15, but not bad.
Also, anything along Davis Drive Corrider (which is really what has been suggested) will work well.
I think one can get a nice single family home for under $200k, depending on what you need, and how you define "nice". (I sure could).
When Twin Lakes was first being built, right on McCrimmon, I laughed when they told my client his address would be Cary. I asked them how that could be, considering we were smack dab in the middle of Morrisville! They didn't find me funny!

Are you in the townhouses in Beechtree?

Washington Square in Amberly has some townhouses for sale, not brand new but within the last 5-7 years. The HOA fees are approx $175 a month so keep that in mind as well.
