The big shocker for me was Harnett County. Why are people moving there? The Triangle is to be expected.

Folks move to Harnett County for a larger piece of dirt, easy access to Fayetteville and Raleigh both, and quieter rural lifestyle.

What happened to that poster who always used a lot of fancy economic jargon and predicted a mass exodus to Michigan and homes for sale in the Triangle for pennies on the dollar?

*crickets chirping*

Biggest shocker on that map is in the Charlotte area with Union county being blue instead of green. Wasn't it the fastest growing county in the country not too long ago? No surprises in any of the triangle counties being green.

I think I expected Johnston County to be green, especially if Harnett is (I work in Harnett, but live in Wake, which is why I'm SHOCKED it's growing so rapidly - the area where I work is just a burnt-out area that seems to have died when the cotton mills left). Aren't people moving out to Clayton big-time? Johnston is rural, close to Wake County, fairly inexpensive, but new neighborhoods are being built. And I thought I heard the school systems are good.

I'm sure Johnston will continue to boom as 540 comes around just west of there. It should help tremendously w/ commute times.

Clayton will never be as successful as Cary or Morrisville just due to its location. Gas prices are only going to creep higher (barring any disastrous economic collapse) and at some point living 30 miles away from work just doesn't make sense. I think you're also going to see a shift toward smaller homes, closer to work, and possibly with smaller, less open lots as Gen Y begins to enter the real estate market. Just look at most of the major developments in the last few years in the Raleigh area

Are you still looking at that neighborhood over near Athens Drive High School? Just curious what ever happened with that, and as I mentioned in that thread, I always think it's cool when somebody on this forum makes a move or even considers making a move to an area like that, which is a terrific place to live in most respects, yet isn't the kind of neighborhood that tends to attract a lot of attention on this forum.

Well the place I was thinking about got another offer pretty quickly. I'd still consider the neighborhood if something else opened up there but there is a pretty limited stock and the market here is really tight right now.
