I've seen rabid foxes a couple times -- once, about 30 feet or so in front of me. I was standing very still behind a video camera on a tripod, at the top of a hill, taking footage of a nuclear plant (where I worked) to use at the beginning of some training video I was putting together.

The fox looked messed up, its fur all filthy and matted, and it walked very slowly. It looked sick and mean. I kept very still, videotaping it (wish I kept the video!) until it was out of sight. Then I let out a breath.

Another time, I was visiting my friend who lives in a cabin (off the grid) on 14 acres of land in central NY, and we drove by a sick-looking fox who was sticking his head up above a field of some kind of crop. They have no fear. At that moment, I decided, for sure, that city living was the life for me.

So watch out for sick, slow-moving, fearless foxes!

Yes, one of the attacks was in my neighborhood and one was in Dogwood Acres. I read a description of the attack, and it sounded very scary indeed. The latest news is that the police caught a dead fox, and believe it to be the rabid one who attacked, but they are testing it.
