I have transfered to Raleigh and I"m looking for a lake-house to live in year round, I am renting until I find this house I want to buy. I want a dock in the back of my house, on a deep and cold Mtn.-stream fed lake, not a man made creepy warm lake. I want to be able to jump in and ski behind my boat. I cannot find this lake, they all seem to be bought-up by the State. Can anyone tell me a road to look at or a neighborhood or even a lake that has docks behind homes within 30 minutes of Raleigh?
Omgosh. You will never find anything like what you're looking for in NC, and probably not anywhere in the south. You need to go North!
Good thing you didn't buy real estate here.
best,
toodie
Cayuga Lake and Seneca Lake would be excellent options for you. Very deep, very cold.
Funny! It's more like 500 miles away. I know someone on one of those lakes who is looking for the same thing the OP is looking for -- he wants to move here, too.
I didnt read all the responses. so please forgive me if this was said already. I was driving out 64 east towards Rocky Mount and there was a beautiful lake on the right about 1/2 hr from Raleigh that had a bunch of big houses on it. Docks, boats ect. Looking at a map, I think its called Bunn Lake?? Probably man mad, but a beautiful looking lake while zooming by at 70!

I was surprised to see a reasonable property for sale there on Realtor.com. The house has a Zebulon address and was priced at $239,900. It has a dock in the back yard. It might be a reasonable choice for the OP, if he gets over his need for cold, mountain-stream fed lakes.

if you want recreational boating suggestions ;
Littleton, NC – Straddling the North Carolina and Virginia border between I-85 and I-95, Lake Gaston is a 20,000-acre lake offering a wide variety of water sports, including wakesurfing and wake boarding
Mooresville, NC – Lake Norman is an "inland sea" with 520 miles of shoreline and a surface area of more than 32,475 acres in parts of four North Carolina counties. It is the largest manmade lake in NC ( areas on Lake Norman include Huntersville & Comelius)
if you wish to drive north about an hour and half Kerr Lake Jet-skiing and water-tubing occur often on the lake. Recreational motor boating and sailing also occur on the lake, with three privately operated marinas available: Steele Creek and Satterwhite Point (in North Carolina) and Clarksville (in Virginia). Far as 'water access" real state look at Vance, Granville, and Warren counties in North Carolina
none are mountain fed lakes( they don't exist here..there is mountain fed rapids, rivers, and streams however. =)
Sad part of those suggestion neither fit you 30 minute commute to Raleigh.
