Hello,
We're planning on moving to the area, and since this has been done before, we're planning on renting first, getting a feel for the area, then buying.
We have a 7 & 9 year old and are looking for private schools for them. Preferably Episcopal but absolutely excellent schools needed.
To be ridiculously specific, we want a school focused on critical thinking and not standardized testing.
Any suggestions?
Thanks. This board is so helpful.

There is a great magazine (that is free) that is published in the area called carolina parent. They also have a website, carolinaparent.com and this month the issue was about private, public, charter and magnet schools. It has quite a comprehensive list of the private schools, with their web sites, tuition, etc. You may be able to find the information online, or you could call and ask them to send you a copy.

Hope this helps
Leigh

I've heard great things about St. Davids School (Raleigh, NC). It is Episcopal and serves students K-12.

I have heard good things about Triangle Day School (from a rather particular parent of a gifted student who went there for her Middle School years).

St. Timothy's is Episcopal and runs from K-8th. Great reputation and been around for years. Our Lady of Lourdes and Cathedral (both Roman Catholic) are 2007 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellance. St. Timothy's may be as well, but I'm not Episcopalian so I'm not sure. There are also a number of other Catholic Schools. If money is no object and the school does not have to be a religious school, than you should check into Ravenscroft or Durham Academies. Your children are too young right now for Cary Academy which runs 6-12.

Check out Duke School in Durham. It is a project-based school.
Welcome to Duke School
