An Interesting conflict seems to be brewing between Peace University and the Mordecai Neighborhood. Looks like the owner of the Shops at Seaboard (where the ace hardware, tylers tap room ect.. are located) is in bankruptcy and Peace university is looking to possibly buy the land, let leases lapse, and redevelop the land to expand their campus. The neighboring Mordecai neighborhood is none too happy about it. My understanding is this would not include the land Logan's Trading company is located on, but it would affect the parking spaces the use. You can read about the ongoing situation on the Mordecai website.

As a graduate of Peace College, I can say I'm not a big fan of the admin and Board of Trustees at WPU. I don't think they're interested in growing the college. I think they're trying to make it fail so that they can control what happens to the area. (One of the Trustees has stated that he'd like to see a downtown arena. Hmmmm... where could that possibly go?)

I'm on the side of Seaboard.

Ugh I seriously hope this doesn't happen. Talk about immediately killing the revitalization going on in that area.

Hard to imagine some people get more excited about parking lots and dorm rooms for a private university than the prospect of restaurants, bars, condos and retail downtown.

To each his/her own I guess.

That's disappointing to hear. I was just there on Saturday and remarked about lively and nice that shopping area has become. We've shopped at Logan's for years and now with the surrounding area filling in, it's a nice little shopping outing for more than just garden supplies. Years ago we considered a house at the Village at Pilot Mill, in part because of its proximity to that developing retail.

Sounds like the Raleigh City Council is a bit skeptical of what WPU says they have planned. Concerned alumnae have known for the past few years that the ones in charge are not to be trusted. Say one thing and do another.

Right. I believe it includes the property with 18 seaboard, Tyler Tap room ect... And the building with Ace Hardware, O2 fitness ect... It would NOT include the new property with Bad Daddy's burger or Logan's since those are owned by different people.
