I just found out that I will be hosting a meeting for my company. It will be small (15-20 people) but with folks from all over the US. Not yet sure if it will be spring or fall but will be in '08 most likely over a weekend. Our business meeting will be in Cary.

I've only been here a couple years and wonder what would show off the area best. I may want to take folks on one social event (for example we went to Churchill downs when me met in Louisville). I don't think we'll have enough time to go to the beach...

Also will need to pick a couple places to eat that can handle the group,

Any suggestions?

Depending on when you are doing the event, a Carolina Hurricane's game would be really fun. Also lots of local food always goes over well with people from out of state, for the life of me I can't think of where so will leave that to others .

A tour of the Duke Gardens and Duke Chapel might be nice.

Local southern food options: Magnolia Grill (Durham) & Crook's Corner (Chapel Hill) are both great!

My out-of-town visitors have always enjoyed the Duke gardens & chapel.

If hockey season is over, you might also consider seeing the Mudcats or the Durham Bulls.

You might also try the area around 42nd Street Oyster Bar in Raleigh. Try to include Bar B Que. Are they going to do golf? Depending on the budget - most everyone is interested in Pinehurst. Great Spa, Golf, shopping...

Was just thinking, in case you were rained out for Duke Gardens, the Nasher Museum would be a good alternative.

Another poster mentioned BBQ, and close to Duke Chapel is Bullock's, which is quite good.

Another thing some out of towners have enjoyed is a nice dinner at one of the old tobacco warehouses. Options there could be Taverna Nikos, Tosca, or restaurants at the American Tobacco area.
