I'm looking for a good Blue-Cross Blue-Shield primary care doctor in Hillsborough, Chapel Hill, or Carrboro (could also be western Durham) who is open to alternative medicine, even if they mainly practice traditional western medicine. Any recommendations?

I've heard Dr. Vines at Avalon in Chapel Hill is pretty open. that's where a lot of delayed/selective/no vaxing parents take their kids (although he's not a pediatrician).

UNC also has a center for integrative medicine that might be a help to you. (Duke has one too)

If you're looking for well woman care, check out the Women's Birth and Wellness Center (the birth center on MLK). I know they're covered by BCBS for maternity care, but I'm not positive if they're covered for general well woman care.

". . . delayed/selective/no vaxing parents take their kids (although he's not a pediatrician)."

I understand that "vaxing" probably refers to parents who choose not to vaccinate their children.

Could you clarify what is meant by "delayed" or "selective" parents?

These are parents who choose to vaccinate their children on a delayed schedule (ie. not starting at 2 months), or choose not to get specific vaccines based on their comfort level--lots of people choose not to vaccinate against chicken pox, for instance.

Vaccinate the kids, its important to have children vaccinated for diseases that then give community immunity! sorry this one is my pet peeve the parents who say oh I am not going to vaccinate my kid for mumpsor the measles etc. BS do it or take your kid out of the public schools or better yet take your kid and your family up to them thar hills!

I'm a huge pro-vaccination fan as well. I think it is SO selfish to basically assume your child will stay healthy b/c everyone around them has been vaccinated but you won't take the risk for your child.

OK, that's off my chest. I'm also a big alternative medicine fan. Have you checked out Plum Spring Clinic in Southern Village? Take a look at their website, as well as Chapelhilldoctors. com .
