So I am starting to think termites have taken up residence in a wood door frame around my back door, and I've notice what I think are termites in some of the mulch beds around my house. It is starting to freak me out a bit and I think it is time to call an exterminator. Any recommendations for somebody in North Raleigh? I'm also curious about other's experience with exterminator service and how much I should expect to pay. Thanks!

They can quote you a price better than I can.

I don't label services "The Best," but I think there are "None Better."

I was happy with the price and service from Cleggs. They did a whole house treatment with transferable warranty.

Swift Creek. Will treat your problem and not try to upsell you at all. I even asked them if I should take a service contract and they said "no - you don't need it".

The guy from Swift Creek was not a fan of mulch and happy to see we didn't have any near the house.

AAA Exterminating. Local company, started by Tommy's grandfather.

IF you have termites, they will need to treat the entire home. Don't do a spot treatment. Get the entire home treated and then pay yearly for an inspection and warranty.

I recently had a home that needed to be treated...large two story and it was $700.

I mix spectracide flakes in our mulch twice a year. Looks like oatmeal. I was appalled to discover roaches/palmetto bugs were hanging out in there. This stuff works on fleas as well as termites.

My wife found young termites in one of the flower beds, so I sprinkled that stuff on them and it was instant justice

I have only seen two roach/scarabs in the house in the 18 months since I have been doing the above every six months.

Dave

Most of the termite guys will tell you that termites like mulch so keep it an inch or two from your foundation. And...many will tell you that pine straw too close to the house is a fire hazard. What is a person to do!
