At least up in New England, The Triangle is well known, be it for businesses or for all of the media spotlight on this area being a great place to live for families. Years ago, as my family was researching if this would be a good place to move, anytime we mentioned The Triangle people would say "Oh yeah! I heard abut that area." So when I talk to people back north I use the term Triangle and they know exactly what I mean. If I were to talk to someone down here though, it would be silly to say that, so I say I live in Cary.
Among the well traveled in Airports and opther American cities I've traveled to Raleigh is enough to say or Raleigh-Durham, most people seem to have name recognition there. And I always get the same reply. "Oh, I hear it's nice there, very green."
I say "Triangle" only on this board when referring to the general area.
I live in Raleigh, and if people ask where I'm from, I say, "Raleigh." (Most people watched "Mayberry" -- originally or in reruns -- and know that's the big city - hahaha.)
When I hear "Raleighdurham" or someone living in "RDU," it irks me a tiny bit...since it's two cities, not one, and RDU is the airport. Or living in RTP -- although there is some housing, most of the time, they probably don't mean the giant office park.
