I'm looking for a place to purchase Mountain Laurel (Kalmia Latifolia) shrubs. I only want a few, maybe 2 or 3.

I've asked at several local garden centers, but they won't carry them because the mountain laurel is somewhat difficult to grow, which results in too many people asking for refunds when their plants die.

I'd prefer to have native mountain laurel, as opposed to one of the fancy cultivars, as I prefer the natural white-with-a-hint-of-pink flowers.

I've even considered taking a trip to the NC mountains to get some clippings that I could try to root, but that's probably a last resort if all other options fail to pan out.

Any suggestions?

I've gotten a couple from Lowe's and Home Depot, which usually carry them in the spring when they're in bloom. You can also find them online, but be sure to check with Garden Watchdog before you order. All mail order companies are not created equal.

Niche Gardens in Chapel Hill should have it if you can't find it closer to you.

Love these, my backyard in NY was covered in them.

Call Mandy at John Deere Nursery in Apex. She is awesome and will get whatever you need if she can source it.

Have you checked with Raulston Aboretum? They might be able to source you locally.

Believe it or not I just checked their website and apparently they don't carry it either. I have it admit I'm quite shocked by that.

Wow. I'm surprised, too. Maybe give them a call. They would surely know somewhere local to purchase it.

Our climate is typically a bit warm for them. They can be found in the wild along some of the north facing slopes in the Eno River basin but don't show up too many other places. You might want to look at nurseries farther north and/or west to source these.
