And the fact that I am excited by it leads me to believe I need to get more of a life or at least move somewhere more populated. Anyway, for those in Chapel Hill, the Wal-Mart just over the Orange County line in Chatham on 15-501 has opened. We might go check it out tomorrow.

At least for those of you in southern Chapel Hill. For those of us on the north end, the Hillsborough and Durham stores are much closer. Enjoy the new store (just don't let you neighbors see you because, you know, Chapel Hillians only shop at local boutiques and specialty stores ).

Ha, yes, many neighbors have already made it known that they won't be shopping there. For me, if it's convenient, open 24 hours, and has what I need, I am there. We actually checked it out today. It's fine as far as Wal-Marts go. It's not one of the super ones. I'm just glad I don't need to drive to Durham for every little thing now.
That gets a big UGH from me. I, for one, won't step foot in a Wal-Mart if I can possibly avoid it, so you won't see me there. Hate those places.
You are probably in the minority. I am amazed about a retail business that on average, brings in over $1 Billion in revenue every day of the year (Jan 2013 - ~1.28 Billion/day). For me, there are things I will buy at WalMart and things I will go elsewhere for.
To the OP - Years ago, I was in going through Saint Thomas on the way back to the airport when we hit a a major traffic jam. The cab driver said it was because the first WalMart on the island was opening that day! Of course, I felt the same way when the big box hardware stores finally came to Raleigh. I was used to Home Depot and surprised when I moved to Raleigh to find none.
While a lot of people shop at WalMart, the majority of Americans actually don't, according to a recent study, which found that during the month of March, 39% of Americans shopped at a WalMart. (Second to McDonalds, which was visited by 49% of Americans that month.)
Yay for low wage, low benefit jobs that are subsidized by the government! Way to get rich selling cheap crap and ruining local economies!
