I have been trying to find a half day pre-kindergarten program that is not church based in the Cary/Morrisville/Apex area. I have only been able to find a couple of programs and I am trying to see if there are others that I am missing. I am not interested in the half day programs at the full day child centers like Goddard or Kids r Kids, too expensive and I would really prefer a place that only does half day.

a looonnnggg time ago, my kids did a YMCA half day pre-K program for 2, 3 and 4 year olds. This was not the same thing as the drop in gym daycare program. This was a structured pre-K program and it was awesome. A lot of the teachers taught b/c it gave them a free or reduced Y membership.

It was not religious based, wasn't done from a church, and had no religious teachings. Have you checked your local Y to see if they offer such a thing?

During those years, it paid to join the Y to get the member discount on the pre-k program & I did their swim program and I worked out in their gym. win-win-win all around for those few years. Not sure you want/need all that, but thought I'd offer it up as a suggestion.

however, the church I go to has a pre-k program but the instruction is not religious based in any way. The rooms they use aren't even used for sunday school, so there are no overt signs that the classrooms are in a church....have you toured any? Also, our pre-k teachers don't even necessarily go to our church.

you might be surprised at how non-religious based it is....Look at methodist pre-k programs first -- I have seen 2 different pre-k programs where the classrooms were separate from churchschool classrooms.

Agreed. Some churches simply run the pre-K programs to make money using the space. .

A second for the Methodists. Try White Plains United Methodist. It may meet your needs. This is not a religious program. The preschool occupies space in the Annex. These are separate entrances and class spaces from the ones the church uses for its programs so there is no overlap or religious symbolism in the rooms. It may have the half day program you are looking for.

Our kids did half days at Genesis United Methodist on High House road. My wife taught there for a few years. I'd say the program exposed the kids to religion but it was minimal. It was inexpensive too. They have 4 and 5 day programs.

Discovery Childhood Development Center in Morrisville, and Trillium Montessori in NW Cary. I know people who have been very happy with both!
