Hello. My daughter will be moving to Albany, NY, in a few weeks for college. Unfortunately, when she needs to move, I'll be unavailable to move her stuff up there (and she has never driven that far on her own and doesn't really feel comfortable renting a van and driving by herself).

Is there any way to ship a bed/mattress/dresser and several boxes of personal items there? Or would it be cheaper for her to just buy a new bedroom suite in Albany and have it delivered? She'll be there three years and wants to have her own things there, but this is turning into a logistical nightmare.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sell the stuff on Craigslist. Use the proceeds to buy new stuff off Craiglist/IKEA/wherever when she arrives. It'll cost you way more than it's worth to ship furniture unless it's really nice, expensive pieces. I'm guessing that's not the case.

YEP. That's the answer. Just make sure she knows the 'rules' of being safe on CL.

I'm going to agree with the others posters...sell the stuff and buy other stuff!

If she HAS to have HER stuff, the cheapest way would be to either hire a mover or see if you can find a friend of hers that wants to make some cash and is available to drive.

Movers don't want small jobs and will not serve them well.

What about "Two Men And A Truck"? They have smaller trucks and advertise that they'll do smaller moves.

Trosa? I had a client that had them move stuff out of her garage for a yard sale.

Ask her school....they may have some recommendations - movers or ways to ship to a college.

UPack relo cubes might be worth checking out. They drop one in your driveway and you have several days to pack. They ship and drop it in your driveway at your destination. UHaul has pods too, I believe.

Buying on Craigslist is a can of worms if you are on a schedule and don't have a pickup to haul stuff. Plus, there is the whole bedbug business.

She might be able to buy a new bed and dresser and have them delivered for less than the relo cube.

But if she has a bed that she loves and sleeps well in... sometimes that's worth the expense.
