Good morning all!. I have read this forum many times to get information but never posted on it for myself. I am a bit nervous about my family's relocation. My husband was recently asked about relocating. We thought we were going to be placed in Atlanta, where we know people. The company had other plans for us. They want my husband to work at the plant in Dudley, NC instead. I have never been to NC and am really excited about the move just know nothing about it. From what I have gathered, Dudley is in the middle of nowhere. We have an 18 month old daughter and a son due in September. We would love a family friendly place to live with a lot to do. My husband is fine with commuting to work about 30 minutes. I have seen that Goldsboro is the closest to Dudley but have seen very mixed reviews about the crime rates there. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I posted on another forum and was told to focus on this group. Thanks!!
I live in NC and have never heard of the area. I know where Goldsboro is, but I would not want to live there. Do you have to relocate to that location?? Are you coming from a large city? I imagine that the Dudley area is very rural.
Based on the fact that it seems like your family is from a more populated area, I could see how living in Dudley (had to look it up...lol) would be a huge shock to the system. I've traveled to Goldsboro several times for business and I hate even parking my car in the hotel parking lot there. Out of all the cities and towns I travel to in NC, I honestly dislike Goldsboro the most (maybe Rocky Mount for the tie).
I would look into Clayton in Johnston County. By the looks of it, it would be about a 40-45 mile commute for your husband, but he would never have to worry about traffic. You and your family would enjoy Clayton a whole lot better than Goldsboro as it's safer, has much better schools and is roughly 20-30 minutes from downtown Raleigh. Also, you're going to find a lot more variety of housing in Clayton with many new neighborhoods with more transplants. Clayton would be my suggestion.

No offense, but if you are from a large metropolitan area you won't like it there! We live in the Raleigh area, and this is no NYC, nor Ft Lauderdale where we lived for many years! Please check it out before you move! Good luck !!!

I would also recommend Clayton. I am not a fan of many podunk towns which are located along highway 70. Clayton is a growing area with good schools unlike Goldsboro, Kinston, or La Grange.
in order to have "a lot to do" in Dudley, you'll need to join a church.
