My friend is coming to visit next week from Australia and will be arriving early in the day on Wednesday. He loves museums so I am going to drop him off at the science museum after I pick him up from the airport, then go back to pick him up after work around 5:00. Besides the science and history museums, are there any other attractions in the immediate area that he should check out if he is finished with the museums before I get back to pick him up? They don't have to be anything spectacular, just some time-killers that may be of interest. I don't want him going far though because I'm afraid he might get lost lol. Even a good restaurant or library would be ideal for him.
There's also the CAM downtown. He could hop on the R-Line and check that out. CAM Raleigh
I think he'll have a good time. I have a friend that did museum studies in college (yes that's a degree lol) and he was really impressed with our museums. Said they were better laid out than most of the museums in California where he's from.
The old NC Capital, it has tours that are pretty interesting.
Also, if he's active, something like a Segway tour would be both fun and informative.
If he's Australian, then he'll likely enjoy places to get a good pint (Never met an Aussie that can't drink me under the table), so Tir na Nog, Nattys, and many, many other places.
Or just shopping or strolling DT Raleigh, to take in the sites if it's a nice day.
Clyde Coopers could also be considered "the NC Gastro-Museum" haha. (but really, a uniquely NC experience..)
My SIL is Australian and friendly! Remind him that he isn't in Australia!
My SIL once was leaving the golf course in North Raleigh and some lady stopped to offer him a ride. I thought it strange since he is about 6'4" but I guess she saw him carrying golf clubs and thought he looked safe?!! So, he hops in to her car and arrives back to our house, safe and sound. Had she let him off anywhere else, he'd have been lost without a cell phone!
I had to explain to him the "not everyone is a friend" talk and he was about 25 years old!!!
The Daily Planet Cafe, attached to the Nature Research Center (new wing of the NC Museum of Natural Sciences) serves beer and wine as well as coffee drinks and good things to eat. A nice place to kill some time in the late afternoon, and right there!
