We're trying to think of a weekend get-away for our anniversary in September...

Can anyone think of a spa-like hotel or resort within a few hours drive of here? We prefer quieter cities/settings rather than big cities.

Thanks!

Hot Spring, NC comes to mind. If you have $$$ to blow The Swag out in the mountains is a really nice resort.

If you want to splurge, there is no better place within driving distance from here IMO than Palmetto Bluff. There's a reason why it's consistently rated one of the best Inn's in the world. If you want to go some place where you can get away from it all and relax, drop off you car and get around by bike, eat great food, enjoy nature (alligators, plenty of bird species, dolphins, armadillos), sit by the pool, go to the spa, fish, kayak, walk, play a variety of sports (tennis, golf, bocce), sip lemonade, roast s'mores by the firepit, see some of the most beautiful homes in the south, and just chill, then go there! Now! :-)

Follow the link provided and click on "The Bluff" section on the left side of the homepage. It's a beautiful publication which gives a good taste of what PB has to offer. It's well worth the money (and once you pay for the room, most activities are included).

I got a suggestion from a similar thread on here for The Chalet Inn in the mountains. It was WONDERFUL! Sweet little towns all around.

Depending on your budget, have you given thought to The Grove Park in Asheville?
