I would NOT use Dr. Darch for CCL repair, and in fact, I highly doubt he performs TPLO.

My dog had both CCLs repaired in the last year (one in November and the other in January) - her procedures were performed by Dr. Tudor with Tarheel Veterinary Surgical Specialists - http://tarheelvets.com. She performs surgery in your normal vet's office, and is absolutely fabulous.

Re: cost -- the $2500-2700 quoted by VSRP is a pretty average cost in this area, for TPLO. It depends upon the size of your dog, the cost for my dog's knees was about that, per surgery.

Thanks all. I checked at work as well and one of my coworkers' wives is a vet and also recommended VSRP. I didn't know if they were in bed with Banfield so I was hoping for some unbiased opinions...but it sounds like they're reputable and that is a good price. Wish us luck tomorrow!

I don't know if VSRP is the same as VSH (Veterinary Specialty Hospital of the Carolinas) or not. I think most of the posters here have been talking about VSH, but VSRP may also be good. Best of luck!

Try Bayleaf Vets in North Raleigh Raleigh Veterinary Hospital | Vet in Raleigh NC

They have a surgeon on staff who is very experienced and very fair in their pricing. If nothing else at least get an estimate.

Dr. Shontz at Sanford Animal Hospital fixed my English Mastiff's OCD on both front shoulders when he(the dog) was about a year old. My big boy never limped after the surgeries, he lived 8 years before he got lymphoma and had to be put down. SAH came highly recommended for joint/bone types of surgery.

Called North Wake Animal Hospital to ask about a TPLO quote, but they would not give estimate over the phone. Had to go to North Wake Animal Hospital and then had to pay $250 to put dog under and to do x-rays that did not show a great deal. They did use the x-ray screen to show the TPLO surgery which involves breaking the bone at the knee, putting on a metal part with several screws and twisting the lower part of the bone in some way and hopefully harnessing the other ligaments to keep the knee working. However healing in a crate is required for 6-8 weeks after surgery. Their estimated minimum cost for the surgery was $2800 on top of the $250. I looked TPLO complications up on google. It has a 60% chance of the dog tearing the other parts of the joint after, if they don't get a staff infection from the surgery. And a TPLO surgery on the good leg is likely due to the dog putting all the weight on the good leg. North Wake Animal Hospital wanted to do the surgery, however for now I am keeping my dog inside where she lays around most of the time, which greatly limits the running around outside. She gets along well, sometimes holding leg up, and others using the leg. Time will tell. I wish they had a better option than TPLO surgery.

Please call Bayleaf Animal Hospital. My dog had ACL(CCL) repair with them in Dec 2014. Cost was less than $1500, they don't do TPLO but another surgery that fixes the stabilizes the knee. Recovery is a little longer but much less costly.

We used VSH in Durham (Dr. Lee) for our dog's TPLO, and we were very satisfied. The price you were quoted sounds about average. He went in early in the morning, and came home the next night. It is true that the dog will likely damage the other leg shortly after you have the first one repaired...ours had to go in for the second TPLO just 2 months after the first. It's been 1.5 years since the surgeries, and you can't even tell he was ever injured - he runs around and jumps just like before.
