If anyone in Raleigh says don't go to Durham, too much crime - DON"T believe them! Durham is one of the coolest places in the Triangle & is written up in the NY Times regularly for the dining scene & where food truck rodeos in this area started. Basically, we're the trend setters! Also great for startups of any kind!
Everyone will tell you go to the Angus Barn for a great steak. Overpriced IMO and Backyard Bistro by the arena in Raleigh uses the same beef supplier & puts them on the chargrill for that nice backyard bbq flavor rather than the flat grill (frying steak?) that Angus barn does AND for about half the price!
Cloo's Coney Island in Raleigh has Vienna beef hot dogs and makes them Chicago style and so does Firewurst. Cloo's does it better, but they take forever to serve the food. Rosati's is so-so and the Only place that has anything like an Italian beef sandwich. Good luck to you!

Thanks! Went to Angus Barn last night. It was good, but I agree it was overpriced
I went from growing up in Hollywood California to college in North Carolina and it was culture shock for me. Chicago is so fast paced, prepare yourself for slower days ahead. Might add the Southern girls were a delight with their southern drawl and oh so gorgeous!
It was what I needed so not knowing you I always assume we may not love where we go, but it is where we need to be. There are no mistakes in the Universe, so follow the path with heart, then you will always be in the right place at the right time!
Cheers,
Terry

Welcome!! I love Raleigh. We have had rough patches, times of uncertainty, but we seem to have made our relationship work. Now, I have a "RALEIGH" plate on the front of my car. My tip: avoid suburbia, be downtown as much as possible (art, bars, restaurants, people, coffee, farmers markets, etc etc). This does not mean Glenwood South. That stretch bites, with the exception of C.Grace (cocktail bar), Helios (coffee shop), Clockwork (bar), The Rockford (restaurant) aaand Revolver (great consignment shop).
Enjoy!
