I haven't been on a bicycle since I was a teenager, but I found out the hard way last weekend that my neighborhood streets are a wee bit too hilly for this middle-aged mama. Can someone recommend a wide, reasonably flat trail where I can get some practice?

I second the Tobacco Trail...park at the White Oak parking lot. It's very flat and easy to ride on.

Yes, in addition to the tobacco trail, you can get some short, but relatively flat runs in from Bond Park. Either follow the White Oak greenway South, toward Mac Arthur (that's a couple miles out, then you have to come back), or Black creek which is good for about a mile before it gets hilly, or Oxford Hunt, which is pretty flat (paved and gravel) until it ends at W. Chatham St.

If you connect White Oak on the other side of Davis Drive Elementary, it goes for a couple more miles, and is "pretty flat".

If you want shorter, there is also Apex Community Park. 2 mile loop, but a lot of walkers, so you don't get to have a carefree ride.

I was going to say the greenways in MacArthur Park or the one that goes thru Park Village (I guess that is White Oak)...Park Village has its own trails that branch off too, I think.
