Where to dispose of small propane canisters? (tornadoes, stores)

I believe stores that sell them will take the empty canisters back. I would give REI, as I know they take the small canisters used for backpacking stoves.
If they aren't empty, I saw a scientific documentary film last night where they used them as bombs to destroy tornadoes full of sharks.

Alternatively to stowing them whilst awaiting shark-filled water spout tornadoes and tuning up your chopper, You might take them to a Hazardous Waste Recycling Centers:

I usually just toss 'em in the nearest lake. Heard from a friend that they are biodegradable.
