See you on Craigslist next week with some really great stuff to sell, after I try out the uBee...

And, I will be either a hero or a zero at home...
Make that a Zero.

Ubee modem was hot, and TWC confiscated it.

LOL
Now negotiating with the seller for an "adjustment.'

Where did the seller say they came from? No cords, that's interesting.

"Pulled from a working environment."

She is going to make it right. Now shopping a more conventional route...

Default What about Phone service?

Will these modems work with TWC phone service? I think I remember threads earlier this year when TWC first added the rental fee and consensus was this only helped with internet but would not work if you had TWC phone service.

Is that still correct?

My rental fee still shows $3.95. I'm keeping an eye on it and am curious if DOCSIS 2.0 will work for my 30/5 service.

Correct...you still need their box for phone service. But they won't charge you a rental fee for it if you use it only for phone.

I believe 30/5 (Extreme) and above requires a DOCSIS 3.0 modem.

Just my opinion, but for future-proofing, I think it makes the most sense for any TWC customer to get a DOCSIS 3.0 modem regardless of speed. Currently have a Ubee for 30/5 (now 33/5.8) and trying to decide which supported DOCSIS 3.0 modem to buy (SB6141, SBG65860 or other)

Someone earlier in the thread said they tried a 2.0 with good results, so it got me wondering, but I tend to agree with you, 3.0 is a better way to go if trying to future-proof, especially when spending the money to buy one's own modem.

Although I doubt TWC is going to bump speeds any time soon, and am waiting to see what offers CenturyLink DSL comes out with once they're done with fiber here in my 'hood.

Agreed.

I'm probably going for the SB6141, with intent to always have my own router. The other one has the router included with the modem.

$89.99 @ Best Buy
16 month payoff at $5.99/month.

I got the SB 5101 or whatever it is for $50 from Newegg.com - back when the monthly fee was $4; no muss, no fuss, and TWC's directions for calling and activating it were simple. Now that the fee is going up, it is an easy way for 15% savings on the bill.

If TWC ever gets to DOCSIS 3 I'll worry about a faster modem, but I didn't see any need to buy a piece of technology that might be old and deprecated by the time its needed..
