I'm pretty sure adlnc07 didn't mean that seriously. It was just a tongue-in-cheek strawman. I really doubt that anyone would ever argue that less crime is worse or less desirable than more crime, all else being equal. It is true that a lot of the places in the United States in 2013 with the very lowest statistical crime rates tend to be fairly quiet, suburban, and homogeneously affluent, and Cary is a good example of that. Some people might consider that boring, but if so, it's only tangentially and indirectly related to its low crime rate, not in any way suggesting that the low crime rate makes it boring. Realistically, a lot of the more dynamic, vibrant, and culturally and socioeconomically diverse places, both in the Triangle and across the country, tend not to have crime rates as absurdly low as places like Cary. And lots of people are willing to accept the trade-off of somewhat higher crime rates in order to live or spend time in those places. But I can't imagine that even any of those people would argue that it's better to have a higher crime rate. Frankly, I think it's good that the Triangle offers some of both. Personally, I would prefer to live in Raleigh, Durham, or Chapel Hill than in Cary, because I find them more fun, interesting, stimulating places to be, and I accept that their crime rates are generally substantially higher than Cary's. But I have nothing against Cary, and clearly plenty of people prefer what it offers, including a remarkably low rate of crime, especially violent crimes. And frankly, despite the stereotypes, I don't find Cary to be nearly as boring as it's sometimes portrayed. There is some cool stuff happening in Cary, too, although you do sometimes have to search a little harder and look beneath the surface to find it there.

You missed a light touch of sarcasm. It was funny.

It is not uncommon on CD for people who have never been to Cary to call it "boring."
Maybe Cary would be more "interesting" if we had more crime?

I'm take boring over higher crime any day.

This information is a bit old, though, and doesn't take into account the recent spike in crime. Hopefully, that's just a short-term problem that will be dealt with quickly.

Exactly.

Cary was actually criticized here on this board for being "too clean," so I figured it wasn't too much of a stretch for someone to find a negative in "low crime!"

Grew up in #1, now living in #3. Apparently I'm a very safe guy to be around.

But should I be feeling "unsafe" since my current town is two spots lower than my hometown?

The dirty little secret in Cary is that most crime is "Beige on Beige."
Complete cover up by TOC & COC. With full media complicity.

But Cary is only a town. The second largest town in America, but town nonetheless.

The city vs. town distinction is pretty much meaningless. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Town:

North Carolina
In North Carolina, all cities, towns, and villages are incorporated as municipalities. According to the North Carolina League of Municipalities,[15] there is no legal distinction between a city, town, or villageā€”it is a matter of preference of the local government. Some North Carolina cities have populations as small as 1,000 residents, while some towns, such as Cary, have populations of greater than 100,000.
