Does anyone know what all the Tree Clearing is for on the Corner of Weston Parkway and Chapel Hill Road in the Cary/Morrisville Area? In the last week almost all of the trees have been cut down.

Looks like it. Davis Development - Atlanta, Georgia Based Multi-Family Home Developer and Manager

I've been meaning to look this up for the past week. I didnt find anything on Cary's site at first glance so I tried looking up the property owner on iMaps and found that they released in idevice app. Works great on the iPad. Actually it's way easier to use than the full site as you can just pinch to zoom and it doesn't hang up! Then I looked up the owners address and found the page above. Hopefully they will put some more info up soon.

Called Cary and it does seem to be that mixed use development. It is listed as 309 apartments, 35 townhomes and 38,187 square feet of retail.

Right now they are calling it Weston Corners. From the other projects Davis has on their site, it looks like it should be decently high end.

Weston Corners was supposed to be the name for the hub at Evans, but that's Weston Commons now, isn't it?

How will they handle traffic, though? I mean, 54 is already congested enough.

I'm not out there everyday, but it seems like traffic is much better since Chapel Hill was widened for Park West. And it's already sorta widened there at Weston, but maybe they'll widen more of that stretch to help things out.

Although I guess CAMPO just upgraded the widening from Weston to Perimeter Park to a 2030 horizon from a 2040 horizon previously. So maybe nothing more in store there for a while. It's all part of the NC 54 + More corridor plan, but that's a complicated project pinned up against the railroad tracks along a good part of its length. Believe NCDOT plans to wrap up discussions on that by the end of the year, but actual work is mostly a good bit into the future.

Yeah I was confused on the name also. Cary calls Weston Commons Weston Corners on their website in their Mixed Use page.

As far as traffic. I doubt it is going to add many trips, percentage wise. Even if every single residence there had 2 cars and they made several trips a day, it is a drop in the bucket compared to traffic driving through there. Half the reason I wanted to see the site plan is to see what they make them do and if it will help the traffic already there like Park West did. Just looking on my own I kind of doubt it will since there is no glaringly obvious deficiency like the turn lane issues previously at 54 and Cary Parkway. The main issue I can see is cars heading from Morrisville toward Cary turning left onto Weston. Morrisville has already gotten NCDOT to agree to re stripe that area to allow more left turn storage for that movement as a precursor to the Morrisville Parkway grade separation project.

Spotted this document noting that Weston Corners submitted a revised plan on May 9, involving "revisions to grading, landscaping, & Hwy 54 road alignment". It's project number 08-SP-087-A.

The only other specific mentions I saw about traffic improvements related to Weston Corners were about a new right turn lane on westbound Weston at Evans. That's mentioned in a couple places relating to the massive Weston Lakeside proposal, which seems to be where MetLife will be setting up their permanent shop. The documents note that the Weston Lakeside project would normally require this turn lane to be built but that it's already been committed to by the developers of Weston Corners.

Any info on the retail part of the plan, or is it still too early to identify businesses? I also worry that this just exasperates the traffic on 54, especially during peak times. It certainly doesn't help .
