My wife and I sauntered into Tasty Beverage Company yesterday for a couple of beers. We sat outside and noticed that Jibarra has reopened as Jose and Son.

We ordered a couple of appetizers and they delivered them to us (next door) , they were really good. WE went inside Jose and Son to complement them on their food and the new layout looks great!

I was looking at the on-line menu and it looks really good! Initially I was surprised by their decision to change but I'm hoping to try the new format soon!

How awesome! I'm glad they are trying a new concept down there. I can't wait to try it. I've been eating at this family's establishments since they first opened El Rodeo in the 90's. Great food and great family.

Nice to hear some feedback on Jose and Sons. Can't wait to try it this weekend. We've been going to Jibarra for Saturday lunch for years. I'll try to remember to post an update once we check it out.

I visited Jose and Sons over the weekend. I like the changes they've made to the interior, even though it's pretty subtle. I've always thought they have a great space and now you can see how they are trying to tie in their Southern American roots with their Mexican heritage. I noticed several new faces among the staff.

As for the food, hopefully it's just transition pains but I did not enjoy what I ordered (Enchiladas Suizas with the red sauce). It looked great but didn't have any flavor. My husband ordered the flank steak and shrimp which was a lot better - still not stellar but much better than the enchiladas and came with a nicely dressed little salad and rice and beans.

The chips & salsa were good (not on the menu) and they had a nice little kids menu that our son enjoyed. We'll try it again later after they have a little more time to work out the kinks. I'd like to see if that mac & cheese w/ crab meat is any good. I had an amazing version of that in California recently that I'm still dreaming of. :-)

Isn't Jibarra/Jose and Sons owned by the same folks as the Rancho Grande chain? If so, bland seems to be par for the course with them.

Hi Eva - not sure about that. I think they are affiliated w/ El Rodeo and La Rancherita (name?), which now that you mention it, neither have ever impressed me. I'm a much bigger fan of Las Palmas (although not close to my side of town). Having said all of that, I have long been a fan of Jibarra so I'm hopefully that Jose & Sons will grow into a place worthy of my Saturday lunch outings.

hah yeah I meant El Rodeo not Rancho Grande. I'm not sure where my head was when writing that!
