I am downsizing and selling in 2 months and need a 6 month lease to figure out what I want to buy next. I was going to rent an apartment and put things in storage but a townhome with garage would make things easier..Does anyone know if a 6 month lease of a townhome is unheard off..
I would be a great tenant, with good credit ect...

It is not unheard of. Having a good short term tenant through the winter, with a vacancy as the market warms up in spring may well appeal to a landlord.

I think you could expect to pay a premium, though.

It's possible, but the rental market is tough at times, and it's no longer a buyers (or renters market)

Good properties are being snapped up quickly and most people want folks in there for a 1 year lease.

6 months goes by very quickly.

We found it impossible to find a home to rent for 6-9 months last year. Carrington Apts in Brier Creek will do as few as 3 month leases and they have garages that you can rent, too. The apts are large, recently refurbished and okay. Not great, but okay.

Chancery Village, an apartment complex on RT 55 in Cary has 1400 sf townhomes with garages. No real yard to speak of, but there is a really nice pool.

When I was looking for a short term lease I found apartments for 3, 4 and 6 months, some with a garage. All of the apartments were very large (3 bedrooms with walk-in closets) and felt like living in a small house. I am not sure if this would work for you but it may give you additional options if it does. All of the townhomes that I contacted when I was looking had a 12 month minimum lease. The apartment complexes I viewed were Carrington Park (Morrisville) and Bexley (multiple locations).

many complexes offer 6 month leases, but monthly rent can be significantly more.
