I'm bumping up this thread to find out if this restaurant opened in Durham? We used to LOVE The Pit but haven't been in a while since it wasn't so good when we went about a year or so ago (after Ed M left). I checked on the ATC website and didn't see the restaurant listed.
I'm looking for a place for Southern/Barbecue for a party of 8 for dinner for my husband's upcoming birthday. Any other suggestions would also be appreciated. Thanks
No, it isn't open yet. the construction on that part of ATC is nearing completion, but no restaurants yet.
Have you thought about Crook's Corner for husband's birthday dinner?
Look at the business The Pit does at the same price point. May not be for you, but this place will stay busy.
I'm guessing it's more about the ambiance than the actual que.
I wasn't impressed with the food and I didn't go back. When I want ambiance, I'll go to a place that caters to what I'm looking for. When I go for que - whether shirt and tie or t-shirt and jeans, I'm there for the food. Was totally unimpressed with "The Pit". I don't believe que was ever meant to be "upscale".

Unless something has recently changed at The Pit, $12-15 is not the lunch price point. Last time I had lunch there I paid $8 for a sizable plate of food. And it looks like the price is pretty much the same now: Lunch Menu - Grub - The Pit Authentic Barbecue
There is not, but I think there is a price that most of the working class around Durham are willing to pay. It seems like this restaurant would be more of a lunch splurge or client-entertaining destination for most folks who work in downtown Durham. Maybe I'm wrong and they will do extremely well...
Not everyone going to lunch is working class. There are plenty of professionals to support higher priced lunch establishments. There is a market for those types of establishments.

Professionals = working class in a downtown area. I don't know of many white collar workers who will pay $20+ for lunch all the time...especially in Durham, which is why I said it is more of a special occasion or client entertaining price point, but maybe we will all be wrong and the lunch menu will have lower prices than originally advertised.
