I'm flying my mother in from out of town and inviting a few friends. We have two options we're considering, one in NW Raleigh and the Washington Duke Inn. I haven't been there for a year or two. I know they are going a little casual, getting rid of white tablecloths and perhaps quality of food is not as good. Has anyone been there for Thanksgiving in the last 1-2 years? How was it?

I've not been there, but have heard good things about the buffet in Pinehurst.
A bit of a drive, but more formal with live music.

A few years ago, friends enjoyed Margaux's.

Do you mean Pinehurst, NC? That's a bit far, don't you think? I would like to try Margaux's but my friend wants to go somewhere with a buffet. That could mean the Brier Creek Country Club or Washington Duke Inn. The Washington Duke Inn is almost $70 so I'm not sure about doing that.

That's why I wrote "a bit of a drive." Several friends just make
a day of it. Have a great holiday.

My in-laws come to visit for Easter/Thanksgiving each year, so we have gotten to try many of the areas holiday buffets. I liked the Washington Duke Inn, but I didn't think it was spectacular for the price. I liked the Carolina Inn better because it felt more quaint--they have several rooms to seat people rather than one giant room, like WDI.

The Angus Barn does an incredible buffet for Thanksgiving, but it's quite spendy and the reservations book up fast. I personally won't go again for Thanksgiving as a buffet is a waste of money for me; I can't eat enough to feel like I got my money's worth, lol.

I'm learning towards the Washington Duke Inn, but I've seen the menu for Carolina Inn and it is really impressive. Plus I like the idea of small rooms.

Thanks for all the replies.
