Sounds like a great way to check out the neighborhood!

"Over 100 artists display and sell their work from porches, homes and studios. This is a wonderful opportunity to stroll through a historic neighborhood and shop for special gifts for the holidays."

For More Information: Boylan Heights ArtWalk

For those of you who aren't familiar with Boylan Heights it is a great little historic neighborhood in Downtown Raleigh. Here is a link to some pics I took a while back:

It depends on what you call a bad neighborhood. It is a downtown neighorhood, if you find that scary. It is next to Central Prison. It is near some lower income housing. But it is a great old funky neighborhood full of great houses and great people. Raleigh's Mayor, Charles Meeker, and his wife live there, as well as many others, including many families with small children. I have been to the neighborhood many a time, including for the arts walk, and never felt it was a "bad" neighborhood. Certainly not "scary".

It's not all upscale....but sketchy? I've never thought so. Just because it's not a gated community doesn't make it dangerous.

You must be.

It's so bad there that the Mayor choose to call it home.
