Raleigh's overall crime index is 11 out of 100 though nobody is shying away from downtown Raleigh or North Hills in fears of getting shot. I don't live in Durham so I'm not an expert on neighborhoods there but I'm sure Southpoint Mall or Hope Valley's crime index is not 6 out of 100.

That is a good point. In Raleigh I know the areas I don't want to be in and avoid them.
When I head to Duke Hospital, or downtown Durham I accidentally end up in areas I
WISH I were not in .
Someone will have an issue with that, but statistics don't lie.
