This forum has been a source of good information so I thought I would try here. My mother will turn 70 her birthday and I'm blessed to say that she is in pretty good health as she has no major health issues. As she's progressed in age though I have become the shuttle to her physician when she needs to go. I live in Knightdale and right now we travel to Chapel Hill to UNC. I'd like to find someplace closer so that if urgent care is required we can arrive quickly and if for some reason I'm not here and she's not feeling well she could potentially drive herself.
Does anyone have any good recommendations on geriatric physicians in the area who are patient and will actually listen to her rather than rush her? If rushed, she tends to clam up and not really share her concerns. I actually need a new doctor myself (for the same reason; I currently travel to Chapel Hill). I actually tried a new doctor near the house recently myself and though I am familiar with doctors found myself feeling terribly rushed by that doctor and my concerns dismissed
Any suggestions on patient practitioners who will take the time to really listen?
Dr. Li Zhou and her partner Dr. Robert Adams of Knightdale Family Practice are one of the most thorough and caring physicians I have ever met. They are family practice so they work on all age groups and are not specialists in geriatric care, but I am pretty sure they would be comfortable taking care of any older patient. Would recommend them highly.
If you don't mind making a drive into Raleigh, Dr. Martin Janis would be my recommendation for a geriatric specialist. He will also take Medicare and Medicaid patients. Not too many primary care doctors doing this nowadays.
