While I actually enjoy getting mine up the old fashion way...the rake, I don't mind the leaf blowing really. If you want to blow away all your top soil no big deal with me.
What does get me hot though is to see a jerk blowing his leaves out into the middle of the street. The same goes for glass clippings...don't get me started
My lawn guy (hubby) uses a blower for the leaves. I think he enjoys the noise AND the power!!! When he is outside blowing the leaves and I'm inside, I don't even hear him. Of course, even if I was napping (instead of being on the laptop), I doubt I'd hear him anyway!!!

The lawn guys come blow off the porch while I'm working and my office window looks out onto... the porch.
I love quiet as much as anyone else, but I'm having a hard time understanding why leaf blowers are evil but nobody is complaining about gas powered lawn mowers? At every house I've lived, the total number of hours of disturbed peace in any given season is dominated by lawn mowers over gas weed eaters/leaf blowers by a factor of about 4.
I'm guilty of several of the above offenses, btw. But I always do it between 11am-2pm. I don't have as much of a problem with "functional noise" as I do self-indulgent, purposeless noise (someone playing their stereo loud when washing their car, or owning a motorcycle/car with loud muffler, or just playing their car stereo loudly as they drive through a residential area).
For those that believe leaves should be raked and not blown -- I assume each of you use one of those old push mowers where the blades turn via human energy only?
