I am dying to have a gorgeously well-made falafel sandwich and I have yet to find a decent place and, more so, the terrible places (Zaky's, Pita Pit) think a falafel is a gold nugget because they charge an arm and a leg for ground chickpeas. Anyone know a fine hole-in-the-wall around here? Close to Raleigh would be best. Thank you.

I've gone with quite a few people to Gussy's in the past and they've all said his falafel is some of the best they've had. La Shish is a sit down restaurant, but very good and reasonably priced, same with Sitti (though I'd recommend Sitti for lunch rather than dinner). Greek Fiesta is a little more like fast food, but still decent quality and a heck of a lot better than Pita Pit. Woof - I gave up on that place back in my college days. Neomonde and Med Deli are somewhere between fast food and the nicer sit-downs. Both have been in business locally for years - the family that owns Neomonde also has an ownership stake in Sitti, though the two concepts are a bit different. Neomonde also has a bakery that provides bread to quite a few local restaurants.
It depends what you're looking for, I think. I'm curious to the answer as well. I was told Neomonde and Greek Fiesta. While I love the other food at Neomonde, I don't like the falafel. I'm used to Israeli falafel, fried, and with particular spices that Lebanese falafel doesn't have. Falafel is one of those things I'm incredibly picky about, and since I haven't found what I like yet, I'd rather make it at home.
I guess I'll try Neomonde ASAP. I don't recommend Greek Fiesta the customer service is beyond dismal at the Cary location. I've never experiences a group of food service employees that hate when you order food from them, particularly when a lunch meal cost $12. I just want to say "geez, I'm sorry I want to order food from this eatery! What was I thinking!"
Yes. Served in a pita (white or wheat) with lettuce, tomato (if you like that but I always get it sans tomato), banana peppers, & lemon tahini dressing.
While Sitti is owned by the same peopel as Neomonde, I think their falafel is nowhere near as good & is more expensive then Neomonde.
