We are adopting two more kids from China and we need to "double" the rest of the kids sleeping arrangements.

We do not want to build our own, but we do want solid bunks. Where can we buy real wood or solid bunks in the area? I am nervous buying online without seeing them, but would be willing to if there was a good set at a decent price that someone suggested from personal experience.

I have been looking on craigslist and everything seems overpriced, or if not sells before I can get to it!

This End Up furniture is very sturdy solid wood. It is often used in college dorms, or at least is was when I was there

We have a table from This End Up and it's wonderful. We use it for games, art, crafting, and at dinnertime we clear it off and eat there. Because it is solid wood, we can sand it down to remove paint, markers, etc. With a bit of wood polish it is good as new. I'd check out the bunk beds from this company if I were in the market for some.

I would try Rockwood Unfinished Furniture (University Drive) in Durham, or Bookcases and More, also in Durham, on Duke St near Chapel Hill St (downtown). Bookcases and more build their own stuff.

both places sell unfinished, but you can pay to have them finished. You can see samples at Bedroom Furniture - Chests - Dressers - Beds and more (is it ok to link their site?)

Do you have a bj's membership? They have been selling a wooden bunk bed set for $200. Not sure if this is in your price range, but it is displayed in the store so you could see it. If you do not have a membership they offer free trials. Craigslist is another place were I have seen several bunk beds listed.

We actually have a set of very solid bunk beds that I think is from This End Up and we're getting ready to sell them. They may be more than you're looking for, though. The set has built in drawers and a desk. You can DM me through this site, I assume (I don't think I've ever tried...sorry.)
