Hello all,

32 year old single professional currently living in Northern New Jersey. Planning a short 2/3 day Christmas getaway and am looking for a nice place to visit in NC. I am single so hoping to find place with plenty of single women. Nice Downtown area. Preferably near lots of nightlife, sporting events, jazz clubs, and other fun things to do. I want to be around a lot of people.

Would you recommend Raleigh or Charlotte as best place to stay? I will be flying in and plan to book hotel in one of the downtown areas.

Thanks for suggestions.

The Triangle will feel dead over Christmas -- colleges shut down (not just co eds, but all the grad students, etc., on break), business travel slower. Some of the hotels might have some wedding receptions and such booked. People are with their families. I'm sure you could get recommendations for a serene, solitary and thoughtful spot, but imo, things are pretty quiet until New Year's.

I would agree that Charlotte is your best option. Check out the schedules I'm guessing there's a basketball game, concert or some theater performance going on. I highly recommend Rooster's a great farm to table restaurant downtown.

It is not in North Carolina but we love Myrtle Beach and the shows there in December. Myrtle Beach is more quiet than usual this time of year, but that is good.

Night life and the shows in Charlotte would be a close second.

Christmas lights at the Charlotte Motor Speedway is popular and you get to drive on the speedway a short distance to see them and stop for refreshments if you choose.

Personally I like McAdenville's Christmas lights.

As stated above, things are pretty slow around the holidays in this neck of the woods. The college students have gone home to celebrate with their families as have many of the young professionals who've moved here for jobs.

The rest of us are all inside watching football.

NC, really? Nightlife? You live across the river from NY! NC is dead at Christmas. I suggest Cancun,Cozumel if you want to be around a lot of people.
