Has anyone on the forum ever visited the "casino" in Cherokee, North Carolina? I'd like to take a trip out there some day but I don't know if it's worth the trouble.
I have been to the casino, but did not play. I'm a low end player ($5 BlackJack is my speed). I went there on a week day afternoon and the cheapest BJ was $15. There is no close competition for them to keep prices low.
Other options are :
- Mardi Gras casino in WVA (~5 hours from Triangle). They too are the only game around, but are more reasonable with prices. Supposedly, there is a WVA law against providing free drinks, but they still charge ~$3 / beer.
- Casino Boats out of Little River SC (North Myrtle - 2.5 hours). It's a 45 minute boat ride, then several hours of gambling. We usually go on the Big M, but Sun Cruz is back.
In my view, NC is missing out by not legalizing casino gambling. There is a ton of tax money to be made. The intersection of I-40 and I-95 is the ideal place to put several. You get travelers going to the beach and to Florida. Yes, there are those that have problems with gambling, but use some of the tax money to help them.
The Lumbee tribe has been trying for decades to get federal recognition, and this would result in the immediate building of casinos along I-95 in Lumberton. But it will never happen.
