SLC is not dry. What they have there are "clubs" where you have to be a member in order to drink. The membership fee is basically a one-time cover charge to enter the bar. They also have state-run liquor stores in SLC.

Utah just has really low alcohol percentage beer. But there is a local brewery up there run by non-Mormons that has some great beers and beer names. My favorite name is the Polygamy Porter.

As for the Durham, the ranking is accurate in that you don't have to worry as much about drunks there. It is the crack and meth heads that you need to watch for

For anyone who thinks that Durham is the 'only' place 'druggies' hang out in the Triangle, don't forget about good 'ol 'drug free' Raleigh and Cary...

(note that DURHAM isn't mentioned in either of these articles)

Are you thinking of Squatters? First place DH took me to when we moved. LOL. When I lived in SLC it was about 40% Gentile (as LDS refers to Non Mormons) probably more than 40% now. Portland's meth problem has decreased because you need a prescription for Pseudoephedrine. So, some of them have moved to other cities.

Men's Health has all sorts of statistics that I often find sort of odd, like the Drunkest Cities, but I thought it interesting that Durham and Raleigh made the cut. Small world.
