Have you tried an Asian market? Seems like I've seen candied citrus peels of some type or another at ours. Of course, you may not want them candied....
I went to the markets in Cary. I'll have to look up that Chapel Hill one next time I'm over that way.
Have not tried Asian markets... to my knowledge, preserved lemons aren't used in Asian cuisine. I believe it is primarily a Moroccan/ N. African thing. Candied wouldn't cut it. Might make for some pleasant snacking, however....
There's some market over by Dalat Vietnamese restaurant that might have them. I forget the name of the market but my neighbor's mom's boyfriend is Moroccan and he goes there.
I am looking for the same thing. I am going to try a mediterranean market on Hillsborough street today...this location used to carry them, but has changed ownership. If I don't find them there, I am trying southern season...I do not want to make these, although I will if I have to. Let me know if you find them anywhere....
Call Southern Season. But for the cost you will pay there, (plus time and gas) you may just want to mail order them instead. Their inventory doesn't exactly fly off the shelves, check expiry dates carefully.
Or, just preserve them yourself! (I've made lots of batches of Limoncello from organic lemons my mom sends me from her neighbors in AZ!)
