IMO, the norm is for Raleigh to be paying huge water bills because we are in a drought and Falls Lake is about to run dry.
(Fortunately Cary draws from Jordan Lake for drinking water so that was only Raleigh.)
Seriously though, it's only in the last few years that we have had no watering restrictions during summer. Google "Falls Lake / drought" to look up lots of stories about the 2007/2008 period when it very nearly did run dry - within 6 weeks of running out at one point I believe.
I rather like the rain. Still getting plenty of sunny days intermixed, I think.
Edited to add: of course, I don't know the full history of rain vs drought. Maybe 40 years ago it rained as much as this or more. My direct experience has been the last 16 years. And it does rather seem to me that we got a lot of heat and drought up till just a few years ago.
I just looked up the last couple months for y'all up there and while not hot, it looks pretty crappy compared to usual. Hopefully that will change for you.

Here is a thread from the last year we were there:
What's the summer weather parallel to a snow day? A heat day? we should definitely all stay home and fill up our bathtubs with ice cubes. Those roads just aren't safe. If they are buckling at 105, what is going to happen when it is 110?
"Sweltering temperatures could reach a record-breaking 106 degrees at Raleigh-Durham International Airport by Friday, according to WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel."

Just a change of events, been weighing heavily on whether to stay here past September...which is when my lease is up. I will probably be gone then, but it's a long summer still.

I hope all ends up well for you, wherever you end up.
