Flower buds are produced the year before. What you saw was the opening of the flower buds. So if they all opened due to the unusually warm weather, they are done with their display.

I think that depends on the variety and when they bloom. There might be others that haven't bloomed yet.

I'm more concerned with fruit trees. My peach tree had been putting out a few flowers when the cold/snow happened and the fruit needs those flowers. The flowers and buds are still there though and on Sunday I saw honey bees in them, so I have hope.

It makes me a little sad at how few folks here in the Triangle seem to even know it is Mardi Gras. The Harris Teeter had one (ONE) Mardi Gras balloon next to a pathetic table of meagerly decorated cupcakes. The Fresh Market sold out of its tiny allotment of King Cakes almost immediately, as corporate “didn’t see it as a big deal.” I’m glad I was still able to source and prepare a good a Jambalaya with Andouille sausage for the family. At least St. Patrick’s Day is a bit harder to miss...the HT had piles of Irish Soda Bread out on the same display.

Last night reminded me of the old days in the league...the big four battles...Tobacco Road. Well, back before Wake left for Winston. By the way, my parents tell me I attended my first college basketball game in Gore Gymnasium on the old Wake Forest campus. It was Wake Forest vs. Carolina. I was too young to remember it Two more great battles last night. A good night for Wake Forest and Carolina fans.

I do wish Wake Forest had actually stayed in Wake Forest. Would have made the Triangle even more of a powerhouse (though I guess it would have thus been named "the Quadrangle"?)
