I did a lot of bottle digging in the 70’s at an old Raleigh dump. It was located on S.Fayetteville St. across the road from the E.B.Bain water treatment plant. What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
I have done some myself and always had fun doing it! I always wanted in that water plant.
I think it is being used now and maybe somewhat restored? Very art deco looking inside from
the pics I've seen.

I’ve been in the plant on many occasions when it was still in service. It was clean as a whistle inside and out. You could eat right off the floors.
Gross. Why? Just the thought of this makes me want to vomit. Why would dig someone's old toilet for bottles?
Money? Historical artifacts? Same reason archeologists dig up human remains and public toilets and vomitoriums and such. It’ll all get dug up at some point. Besides, it just looked like good compost at this point.

Hmm, no, not really the same. At least, those are already fossilized. This person is literally saying to check people's privies. How far back can you go...? Obviously not digging up toilets from 1500 here, I mean it still going to be poop.
But, hey, not judging, just grossed out. You guys do you. I am sure it beats the crap out of some of my hobbies.

It said old privies, and that outhouse looked pretty old. Poop decomposes and even makes good compost. That said, I'd have worn gloves.
So I had to fly to NY last week. While coming back to RDU, I realized I had never actually flown East from RDU before. Since moving here I went to CO & TX twice and once to CA. Then Covid hit. But, anyway, I do not know if this is the case of east of Raleigh, or if I never paid attention when I flew from out West back to RDU: but, I was shocked and saddened to see the amount of land that was completely cleared of trees. A ton of development seem to be happening, but the amount of just bare places is just shocking... just red clay completely cleared of trees. I felt so sad for those little trees. Why can't those developments keep the trees? I understand it's probably easier to build those houses that way, but isn't a place with mature trees would be valued more? What am I missing here? Insurance? Liability?
maybe you're missing what is agricultural land that hasn't grown out yet.
