I know what you mean. When we went out to Calabash a couple years ago, I was looking forward to trying some great little seafood shacks and was disappointed to learn that Calabash-style is all heavily fried seafood. We did find a place that offered the seafood fried or grilled, so I went with grilled, and it was really fresh and delicious. I don't know why there's such a focus on fried seafood around here. You might as well just eat popcorn chicken IMO.
Calabash is a big disappointment over what it was years ago. It was really all about fried seafood anyway. Some restaurants closed for good, and some left for Restaurant Row in Myrtle Beach. A few of the old family owned are still there, but it just doesn’t taste the same. Oyster Rock opened a few years ago on the river where Coleman’s used to be. It’s the best thing down there, and it’s probably more what you’re looking for in seafood.
I'm glad to see that finally the performing arts venues are starting to book shows again. I know we lost a few older venues over the past few years, but with all the new construction happening, have any new ones been added over the past year?
State's baseball team pulled off a stunning upset of the #1 overall ranked Arkansas Razorbacks tonight and punched their ticket to the College World Series.
The absolute stunning thing is they lost the first game 21-2, that's not a typo, they lost 21-2 and still ended up winning the next two games. I very rarely follow pingball aka NCAA Baseball, but damn if it isn't a strange game.
Carlos Rodon, a proud NCSU graduate is doing quite the excellent job pitching for the White Sox as well.
