I can't imagine one owner running to VASTLY different sorts of stores. Most have a certain niche with some differences....these are close to be polar opposites.
In this day and age, I can see it.
Look at Time Warner. They own AOL, CNN, etc, and each company has it's own management, as well as, positives and negative.
Don't forget that Trader Joe's opening in the Eastgate Mall tomorrow, November 30.
I was hoping to be there despite the crowds but I'll be getting a root canal.
I'll be there as soon as the pain subsides.
Please report back if you go there. I do hope the store will be large enough. It is going to be very popular.
I like TJs but I'd rather get a root canal than go on opening day! How 'bout I sit in on the root canal for you and you take my 5 year old shopping at TJs w/ my list. You might have to pop one of those bottles of 3 Buck Chuck in the store to get through it.
Got to TJ's about 8:30 and surprised to see only around 20 people waiting outside the front door. Nice that they were handing out hot cider outside and Italian coffee cake as it was chilly.
Anyway, the parking lot starting filling up quickly and they actually opened the doors about 10 minutes before 9 with a Hawaiian "lei" cutting. All the employees were lined up on either side of the aisle as we were coming in the front door and were applauding the customers. How nice!! Also, each person received a free TJ's bag (because their hand baskets hadn't arrived yet.).
It was a good experience overall and I was out the door by 9:20 and the place was packed by then! So glad to have them so close now rather than having to go all the way over to Cary!
Thinking about heading out there this afternoon if my mouth returns back to normal. Saw the crowds outside TJ's this morning on my way to the endodontist. Told my hubby that he could check out TJ's while I was having my root canal but for some reason he wasn't interested. Men!

My dad wasn't the lease bit interested in TJ's, either. But he was first in line when HHGregg opened. (Or whatever that appliance/electronics store is called).
My mom would have gone with me to the opening, but she's sick with a cold...she did, however, call to ask what I say there. Dad has already forgotton about it.
My husband was there before 9 and they had already cut the lei and the store was crowded. When he came out a few minutes later, there was no place to park and the people were pouring in. Can't believe it's really in Chapel Hill. We used to drive from Rhode Island to MA with a cooler to the nearest TJ's.
We thought it was such a good deal to have one in Cary (we moved to Chapel Hill in Aug.)
I'm sure it'll be very crowded for the first few weeks. But at least it's here!
