I saw that one of the race ambassadors put up on Facebook this morning there were less than 1000 spots left in the race! I went ahead and registered for the full, because I'd hate to miss this first year. Who else is running/who is excited for this big race coming to our city? I know a lot of folks were upset when the news first broke about the race, but I'm staying postive and I'm really hoping we make a ton of money and get a lot of press for this race
I hear the race will cap out at 12,500 runners. It is impressive that they are so close to selling out. I'm running the half marathon and looking forward to it. BTW, I have a discount code that will save you $10 on registration. Anybody interested can send me a DM.
I know this race got some push back, but I think it will be a great event and help the running community in the area.
My husband is signing up for the half. I can't run this year (just delivered twins) but will hope that they will hold it again next year. The one in Virginia Beach is a well run event so I expect the same here. If the weather is nice, the twins and I will be down there supporting the runners and enjoying the festivities which means we'll spend money in an area we typically don't venture to very often.
Sounds like a really fun event, but I have to admit, it is a little bothersome that the city is putting SO MUCH money into this event ($125k to the promoters, I believe) when they are a for profit company. We already have the City of Oaks Marathon, which is locally run, charity event that has a history of success. We don't support that.
I'm sure there are reasons behind it, but it seems backwards to me.
Well, many of my friends are runners, and the good news is that people will get out and exercise, and see our great city, so I guess that's the takeaway....
The race is also going to bring a butt-ton of folks to the city, so that weekend, we will have folks visiting, drinking our beer, visiting our restaurants, and staying in our hotels. City of Oaks is wonderful, and I have partaken in that race, however, since it's not a touring, international race the way that Rock 'n' Roll is, it was really drawing that local crowd, but not a whole lot of folks from, say Arizona, for example.
