There was already a thread pertaining to this topic. It was very polarizing. It got closed.

Let him speak. Silence no one.

The content and attitude of his talk, and the reception from the COC, will teach us more about all involved than squashing free speech in a private venue could ever do.
I would probably go, if I was a Cary COC member, not to fawn over a jock, but to see if he offered up enough unmitigated humility and regret to satisfy me.
And if he doesn't, I am still completely unharmed.

He committed a crime, he served his sentence. Let him move on. To be honest, his crimes pale in comparison to lots of others in the NFL.

Good for the RCOC to have him come and speak. Maybe his message will be a good one, and I for one wouldn't stand in his way.

I wonder if torturing dogs really pales in comparison to much of anything outside of the zany antics of the US Congress...

But, he did his time, lost millions of dollars as penalty, begged his way through bankruptcy, and still, he had better show great remorse and shame and humility. He'd better, indeed.

It is truly offensive that folks would deign to deny a group the chance to hear a sincere mea culpa, assuming one is to be delivered.

Yeah it pales in comparison to murder, rape and domestic abuse. I can think of numerous NFL players who've committed those offenses.

I'm not a football fan, so I don't keep up with all that.

This did come up a little while ago, I guess some people are bent rehashing the same thing.

As I said in the first thread on this topic, I still don't see what hosting a speaker like this one has to do with the stated objective of a chamber of commerce..

What do "Champions" have to do with the COC?
What does any portion of the event relate to the COC objectives?
It is a networking event aimed at members of COC. They hold them all the time.

Best thing to do is to weigh in with your COC directors, and possibly not renew your membership next year.
