I have some colleagues in from out of town tonight. Would appreciate a recommendation for an upscale sports bar in the Crabtree area where they might enjoy catching the game.
Being a total non-sports type, I will rely on CD for recommendations!
Crabtree Tavern is ok, not altogether upscale but not bad or dirty or anything. The nicest place I can think of is Tobacco Road, but it may be a little further south on Glenwood than you're willing to drive, but I still think they are the nicest sports bar place for watching the game.
I think pretty much every bar with a TV will be running this game, so that opens up your choices some. Depending on what your definition of upscale means, I'd give "The Tilted Kilt" some consideration in that it's sort of on that end of town, it's a huge place so you might actually get inside and they have reasonably good screen setup. There's that server uniform thing however...
We always likeed Edwards Mill Bar and Grill or Rudinos when we lived on that side of town. Not really "upscale" more like typical sports bar (not divey), but good food and attentive staff.
Does Raleigh get busy for Duke v. UNC basketball? I know CH and Durham do, obviously. I would expect Raleigh would for a State game against either of those teams, but I would think it'd be similar to going out in CH when State is playing Duke, or in Durham when UNC is playing State --- which really isn't busy at all, and doesn't require getting somewhere hours in advance.
Many a native North Carolinian can tell you about growing up watching or listening to the ACC tourney during high school. They'd wheel in the TVs or turn on the radio so we could follow along.
interesting. While I'm not a huge basketball fan, I've lived here long enough to experience a couple of national championships on Franklin Street, and another in Durham. I just don't spend much time in Raleigh, and didn't think people in NC State territory would pack the bars to watch a Duke or UNC game that State wasn't participating in. I know that wouldn't happen in CH or Durham. I'm glad to hear it does though.
