If you live in Alamance your taxes will be much cheaper than Orange county. If you don't have kids and need the Orange county schools I'd consider Alamance. Eastern Alamance is pretty close to the western portion of the Triangle. You could be in Carrboro or Hillsborough in 10-15 minutes or Chapel Hill in 20 minutes.
So my realtor seems to think I'm looking for something non-existent! I'm looking for less than a 45 minute commute to Mebane, preferably on the Durham side of it. Minimum 1 acre, NO HOA!!!! No vinyl siding, no particle board, plastic tubs, etc (so an older home). At least 3bd 2ba with hardwoods (if they are under the carpet I'll do the work). My negotiables: I prefer 2 story, would love to have a detached garage and some sort of water on the property (stream, pond, etc) with a partially fenced yard. I'm not concerned about paint, wall paper, etc. old cabinets and counters are fine. Update plumbing and electric service would be nice. Don't care about schools. Looking in the $200k and under. Might have some wiggle room once Kevin gets a job, but I'd still like to stay under 200. So am I crazy for thinking this is possible??
I know Hillsborough used to be a bad area and now it's starting to get popular again. Is anyone familiar with Orange Grove Rd, near the 85/40 area?? I have a friend whose family is selling the deceased realtive's estate and I could get a "know someone" kinda price. The place is at 2209 Orange grove Rd. Any insight on that area is much appreciated.
Huh? That's weird. I've lived here 30 years and have never heard anything like that. When did you live in Durham? I used to work in Hillsborough about 20 years ago and it certainly didn't have a crime rep then or in the intervening years. Hillsborough is very quaint and historic, very artistic, home to many authors including Lee Smith and Allan Gurganus. Henderson, on the other hand, is pretty bad crime wise. You sure you're not confusing the two H towns?
