To add another wrinkle to your question, one company's Director might be the equivalent of another company's Vice President. There's not a lot of consistency in job titles across different companies.
Yeah... I mentioned that (in a roundabout way) up there someplace.
That's a major factor.

I am looking for information on how much a director level position in IT would earn in the Raleigh - Durham area. This can be in any industry in the applications or infrastructure area. Thanks for any information shared.
The bolded part also makes a huge difference.
I my field, people who do what I do don't make very much... except, at the company where I work... they do.
People are often amazed that people with my title make that much money here, but the truth is, the title is misleading and the job involves more than it would at other companies.
Make sense?

Thanks for all the responses. Since I am not locked into a specific industry or company size, my question was rather general in nature to get a feel for what is typical in the RTP area.

I am having follow up discussions for an opportunity that comes with this title. Need to figure out if this is a true director job or a case like the banks where nearly everyone seems to be a VP.

I think I would make that determination based on the description of duties more than the salary. What's more, my main concern would be that the salary is justified one way or another by what you'll actually be doing.
A director job in any line of work (IT or otherwise) is typically going to involve a pretty extensive interview process. If that part of it seems too easy (i.e. meet only a couple of people then suddenly you've got an offer), then I would be suspicious. The term "director" has been slapped onto so many positions that by itself it is meaningless (that's true of a lot of job role terms).

More than 100k easily at plenty of the companies at RTP
Non-profit you make $80k-130 tops. At a large corp, $150-300k, medium probably $110-200.
This sounds about right....although the 200-300k seems a little high My husband is currently interviewing at this level and everyone is acutely aware of the diversity of job titles across different organizations. . Doesn't seem to be throwing anyone off.
To further attest to the difficulty of determining salaries at any one company, I have seen base pay scales set up that are shaped like overlapping triangles.. This way, they have alot of flexibility in whether to give a raise without a promotion or a promotion without a raise.. you may have a long tenured Sr. manager with a higher base pay than a director.
