I'm interested to know how Alamance County (eastern) schools do as far as college readiness, especially compared to Orange County schools. Considering a move and planning to stay within Orange County, but Alamance County seems more affordable, but I want to make sure my child has access to lots of honors and AP courses for college prep. Anyone have any information from personal experience?

Orange County schools have a better reputation. You can compare school test results at the state of North Carolina's site, NC Report Card. Please note that all test results took a dive across the board as the state retools with Common Core.

I live in Mebane, which has parts in Alamance and other parts in Orange County. I live on the Orange County side. On purpose, specifically for the schools.

Orange county schools without hesitation. My husband used to teach in Alamance for years and our kids have started in Orange. In his opinion Orange is well ahead of Alamance in areas including technology and teacher support. Orange also has a higher pay supplement than Alamance for teachers. The higher taxes in Orange are worth it in our opinion.
